CATHEDRAL GORGE STATE PARK, NEVADA
*This was Roadside Stop #1 after leaving Seattle –> Grand Canyon*
It all started with an approaching birthday. Then an idea. And finally the longest road trip yet.
Except, the drive was not as scenic as we had imagined. Over 12 hours of driving and 4 states later, a very peculiar gem grabbed our attention off the side of US Route 93.
We had come across Cathedral Gorge State Park. Despite the blazing noon sun, we were ready to jump out the car to explore!
This would be our first real taste of Southwestern exploring. We could never have imagined just how hot it would feel! :)
The prettiest clay I had ever seen…
MOON CAVES
Through the trail, or just down the road from this first overlook, were a series of caves (slot canyons).
Initially they looked like nothing more than a beautiful backdrop of clay…
Except the real treasure was the maze behind these walls. Incredible!
Even more incredible was the temperature difference. Every time we stepped into the shaded areas, it felt like we had walked into a fridge.
And I’m not exaggerating. It was the craziest experience!
We had to really squeeze by in some areas…
Captivated by the way the wind kisses the desert sand…
The southwest taught me several things during our trip. One of those things being to never overlook the treasures hidden behind rugged exteriors :)

Longest. Road. Ever.
It was 1AM when we stopped at a rest area the night before Cathedral Gorge. We woke up to this…
If this lonely desert held such a beautiful gem, imagine the treasures the rest of the world holds? We thought the road would never end. But then we landed on the moon.
…May you always stay inspired to explore all the corners of the world! Thank you for stopping by =)
Love & Adventure,
Denise
